Yeeeeaaah, I probably should have posted this last month when I actually finished this. Anyway, thought I should post some art up while I work on my Wisp entry (I didn't forget...kind of) and get into some other things on Deviantart and my last project for the class seemed like the best piece.

The project was to make a 3D collage (Assemblage art? I can't remember the exact name) and my group choice to do a highly detailed statue of something. We were either going to do this, David and Goliath, or the Colossus of Rhodes. We ended up going with the valkyrie idea mostly because we had many, many small parts and couldn't build anything moving or too big (the whole thing from bottom of the base to the tip of the heighest wing is about 16 inches).

What really seems to make all this work is the "fallen" robot-thing reaching out, while being strewn across the base. I mean, the Valkyrie alone is impressive, but combined with that arm reaching back to it in such a desperate manner (nice touch by the way by having the "fallen's" arm be fully outstretched while the Valkyrie being slightly bent) really brings out the whole emotion here.

Great work here! Hope to see some more of your stuff soon.

Thanks! The whole arm thing really goes out to Mark for putting some much work into the position. The main theme of our piece was a version of resurection, based both on the idea of the valkyrie myth and the idea of the artist bringing meaning to their art (bringing purpose to the junk).

I tell you what, I never would've expected so much emotion out of screws and things. Really creative use of medium!

Thanks. We were freaking out on how well this would have turned out because we had more screws than anything after taking stuff apart.
